Happy Muslim Mama: Iftar at Mum's

Was invited for iftar at my mum’s today. Little Lady suddenly got the urge to wear hijab, she even found a pin to match her outfit and pinned the hijab herself. I got to enjoy mum’s garden in what was probably one of the last warm weekends of the year as we spotted all the different things that are growing.

The loveliest red bell pepper I have ever seen and some crazy looking purple and red pepper.
It was nice also to get a nap on her sofa and then not have to spend the evening cooking (I did help out though, honest!) Fruit Salad with mango, melon, papaya, red and green grapes, peach, plum, guava, banana, apple, pomegranate and a dash of spice.

There was more (tandoori chicken, kebab’s, spring roles, sevaiya (vermicelli in milk), but mum had the sense to make just a little of everything as everyone’s appetites seem to have shrunk. No-one even touched the chocolate fudge cake I took around, which was quite something considering us four sisters love the stuff. Of course the evening was not without drama, Little Man walked into a wall and cut his head (tiny cut alhamdulillah). Of course, in good old-fashioned desi syle the mother-in-law called for aftershave and then proceeded to splash the stuff onto the cut which made Little Man scream the place down for the next five minutes (my gran used to do the same to us). Thankfully the bleeding stopped almost immediately and he was back careering round the place with me beseeching him to be careful.

All in all, it was a relaxing, restful day with family and lovely food alhamdulillah.

BTW, I posted my cards and gifts that were due to go abroad today in the hope that they get to their destinations in time for Eid. Insh’Allah, I’ll post my cards to those in the UK sometime midweek. Thankfully I have the coming week off from work so that I can rest and make the most of these precious last days of Ramadan, and perhaps engage in a little Eid prep insh’Allah.
